#Mall Event – Holiday Season in Jakarta – Part 3

Now, we are going to Mal Taman Anggrek in West Jakarta.

The theme of the event calls Christmas Around The World.

The huge atrium this time was decorated with a huge stage on two sides, one side facing the Main Entrance, the other side is placed next to it and facing the west side. The sponsor’s booths are placed facing the east side with double decker where on the top the put lots of the Christmas theme decoration like shown in the pictures below. On the ground level, below the decoration we can find several vendor booths selling various products.

On the centre stage there is a few cut out to show pictures of people celebrating pictures in various places and countries around the word.

Where the second stage for daily performances and activities is filled with giant screen on its wall.

At certain time, there is also a machine-made snowfall to create the snow effect and make the atrium more entertaining.

The performance and activities more or less is pretty much the same like the usual, Christmas Carol, Small Competition, Photo Ops, etc.

However, Mal Taman Anggrek is still an attractive place to go, because we could find hundreds of restaurants and stores that offer different kind of foods, shopping destination. In addition, the ice rink still very much popular for kids to enjoy fun activity or the XXI Cinema where the family or young people can enjoy the entertainment, too. It’s a place for everyone.

#Mall Event – Holiday Season in Jakarta – Part 2

Stepping to another mall in Jakarta, the next visit is PLAZA SENAYAN.

This year, Plaza Senayan’s atrium was decorated with pretty unique decoration, it's a traditional farmer house and padi field with BATIK patches all over the places. Some soft toys in form of Santa looks cute.

Performances and activities pretty much as the typical one, e.g. Christmas carol, etc., but still quite an entertaining shows, since they brought an excellent singers and musicians.

In overall, pretty cool place to visit :)

#Mall Event – Holiday Season in Jakarta – Part 1

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Yes, that’s one of my all time favorite songs. So cheerful and full of joy!

This holiday season as one of the most celebrated seasons around the world, definitely is the busiest time for almost everybody and also the most expected season for children because they area waiting for their presents on the Christmas day.

Apparently, it’s also the busiest and the most anticipated season for retailers and malls as well. They have stocked up their inventory with plenty of selections of merchandise for customers. Various promotion programs have been prepared to attract customers to shop, too.

Anyway, I’m not going to talk about the business, I just want to share what I have seen so far in some major malls in Jakarta. I hope you could enjoy it as much as I do.

Let’s starts with PACIFIC PLACE.

A giant inflatable snowball is located on the centre atrium of the mall. Complimented with small Elf Houses around it, makes it an attractive site to take pictures. During certain hours, there is also machine made snow drops from the top of the atrium, creating a snowy ambiance. Although this is not something new and Pacific Place have done it since couple of years ago. But, it still fun, especially for the children.

Aside from the decoration, there are some performances and activities as well, i.e. christmas carol by some choir groups like British International School, El Shaddai International School, D’Chorus, etc. Also, there is a ballet performance and other shows, too. Last but not least, the SANTA is there for the children and family to take pictures as well.

In overall, it’s a good place to go for family during this holiday season.

How to care a jeans?

I'm sure nowadays, a pair of jeans is a "must-have" item for almost all of us. No matter what brand, price, color, shape and style, at least we should have a pair, if not a dozen pairs of those in our wardrobe, right? :)

However, do we really know how to care for a jeans? Here, I just want to share some useful tips that I got sometimes ago, perhaps it would be useful for you, too :)
  • Wash your jeans with cool cycle
  • Separate it from other garments and wash it inside out, to keep the color as is.
  • Hand wash or dry clean, if the jeans is a ripped one
  • Do not bleach! Just use a mild detergent
  • Use low temperature heat when drying the jeans in the washing machine
  • Hang the jeans upside down to maintain the shape of it

That's all. Hopefully it helps! ;)

#Retail : Christmas in the Store Window! Part 1

Yes! Christmas is coming soon. We can see lots of retailers and malls have put up their store decoration to create a pretty and festive ornaments in their premises.

If we go around town in Jakarta, most of the high end malls have done the Christmas decoration, unfortunately most of the decoration looks the same year after year, BORING...I must says!

But if we go to other countries where Christmas is one of the most important seasons for majority of people, we can see lots of beautiful things in stores and outside their Show Window...I love seeing those visually entertaining decor, the theme and the details was FANTASTIC! Sometimes, If I have a chance to travel during the Christmas season, I love to go to Singapore or Hong Kong or other places in Northern Hemisphere :) While vacationing, usually I would be able to enjoy lots of different Christmas decorations and festive ambiance in the malls and stores.

Unfortunately I may not be able to go anywhere this season, however, here's some pictures taken by our friend, Luthfi, in Henri Bendel, a high-end dept stores in NYC recently, whom, by the way I envied most, because he could enjoy such a lovely creation in one of my favorite cities in the world :)

Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 - The Style Maker

It’s never enough to see a good thing.

Yeah, I was in another show of Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011, expecting to see a great show from the Style Makers of LPM Graduates. Since the LPM (Lomba Perancang Mode/Fashion Designers Competition) initiated and conducted by Femina and Gadis magazine in 1979, this event has became one of the most prestigious events for the young fashion designers to compete and show case their collection. Most of them now have been marking their names as some of the best Indonesian designers with a very long list of global clienteles.

This time, there are seven designers that will presenting their masterpieces. They are Chossy Latu, Carmanita, Andreas Odang, Eny Ming, Billy Tjong, Denny Wirawan and Itang Yunaz. They have their own signature and characters that makes the show really colorful and diverse.

Chossy Latu came up with his gorgeous collection using SONGKET, beautiful pattern with golden threads combined with black satin silk or brocade. Collection was made into a range of evening gowns that suits for very special occasion like gala dinner or a ball. It really looks elegant, glamorous, sophisticated and perfectly done. Truly a stunning collection!

Andreas Odang, presenting a bit understated collection of dresses that suits for cocktail party. If Chossy came up with mostly long dresses items, Andreas came up with the opposite. Lots of mini skirts and mini dresses. He played around with various fabrics from tafetta, silk, crepe and many more, really make his collection consist of different textures.

Denny Wirawan with Etno Teatrale as his theme, came up with excellent mix of colors and ethnic design that he captured from Aborigin’s culture, the collection was really rich in colors and details with aboriginal elements. Colorful patterned legging was original and even there are plenty of color mix, it all mix well. The presentation was also the most theatrical in this show, where there was a full aboriginal-dressed model, too. Excellent!

Eny Ming, came up with Military Chic collection called Two Side, where she ingeniously design two-side bags that can be used as shoulder bags or backpack. With army green as the major color in the collection, a touch of golden colors bags made the collection looks stylish and chic.

Carmanita, known by her signature in combining tenun songket, jumputan and other traditional fabrics. Her collection this time looks humble and simple but still with a twist. It looks very playful and casual, yet stylish and fresh, too.

Billy Tjong’s collection was a flowy and dressy one. Mixed of partly dyed chiffon and tafetta, give some special effects to the dresses and made them looks sensational.

Itang Yunaz. The last but not least. Focus on Moslem wear nowadays, did not made him lost his glamorous touch. A collection of elegant and glamour long dresses with “kerudung” really emphasize on a beauty of a woman. Combination of tenun, tafetta, thai silk, brocade and chiffon elevated the dresses to a sophisticated item and added a rich cultural value as well.

All in all it was a great show. Well done!

Really had fun watching show by show in this Jakarta Fashion Week event. Unfortunately, the event was held in the midst of unpleasant situation where there are calamity happening in Wasior, Mentawai and Merapi. However, thru Fashion for Humanity fund raising campaign during the event, the committee could raised over IDR 800 million at the end of the event which is closed on Saturday, 12 November 2010. Surely, they will help to support to rebuild the school for the children in those areas.

 Looking forward to JFW 2011/2012!
