Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 - The Style Maker

It’s never enough to see a good thing.

Yeah, I was in another show of Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011, expecting to see a great show from the Style Makers of LPM Graduates. Since the LPM (Lomba Perancang Mode/Fashion Designers Competition) initiated and conducted by Femina and Gadis magazine in 1979, this event has became one of the most prestigious events for the young fashion designers to compete and show case their collection. Most of them now have been marking their names as some of the best Indonesian designers with a very long list of global clienteles.

This time, there are seven designers that will presenting their masterpieces. They are Chossy Latu, Carmanita, Andreas Odang, Eny Ming, Billy Tjong, Denny Wirawan and Itang Yunaz. They have their own signature and characters that makes the show really colorful and diverse.

Chossy Latu came up with his gorgeous collection using SONGKET, beautiful pattern with golden threads combined with black satin silk or brocade. Collection was made into a range of evening gowns that suits for very special occasion like gala dinner or a ball. It really looks elegant, glamorous, sophisticated and perfectly done. Truly a stunning collection!

Andreas Odang, presenting a bit understated collection of dresses that suits for cocktail party. If Chossy came up with mostly long dresses items, Andreas came up with the opposite. Lots of mini skirts and mini dresses. He played around with various fabrics from tafetta, silk, crepe and many more, really make his collection consist of different textures.

Denny Wirawan with Etno Teatrale as his theme, came up with excellent mix of colors and ethnic design that he captured from Aborigin’s culture, the collection was really rich in colors and details with aboriginal elements. Colorful patterned legging was original and even there are plenty of color mix, it all mix well. The presentation was also the most theatrical in this show, where there was a full aboriginal-dressed model, too. Excellent!

Eny Ming, came up with Military Chic collection called Two Side, where she ingeniously design two-side bags that can be used as shoulder bags or backpack. With army green as the major color in the collection, a touch of golden colors bags made the collection looks stylish and chic.

Carmanita, known by her signature in combining tenun songket, jumputan and other traditional fabrics. Her collection this time looks humble and simple but still with a twist. It looks very playful and casual, yet stylish and fresh, too.

Billy Tjong’s collection was a flowy and dressy one. Mixed of partly dyed chiffon and tafetta, give some special effects to the dresses and made them looks sensational.

Itang Yunaz. The last but not least. Focus on Moslem wear nowadays, did not made him lost his glamorous touch. A collection of elegant and glamour long dresses with “kerudung” really emphasize on a beauty of a woman. Combination of tenun, tafetta, thai silk, brocade and chiffon elevated the dresses to a sophisticated item and added a rich cultural value as well.

All in all it was a great show. Well done!

Really had fun watching show by show in this Jakarta Fashion Week event. Unfortunately, the event was held in the midst of unpleasant situation where there are calamity happening in Wasior, Mentawai and Merapi. However, thru Fashion for Humanity fund raising campaign during the event, the committee could raised over IDR 800 million at the end of the event which is closed on Saturday, 12 November 2010. Surely, they will help to support to rebuild the school for the children in those areas.

 Looking forward to JFW 2011/2012!
